Sophia Frances Studio is an independent textile house that was founded in 2019 by London born surface pattern designer Sophia Frances Hassan.

Making the move from urban London to the Kent countryside Sophia was influenced by British heritage charm.  Born from a need to represent a new style of country interiors, she wanted to create fabric collections that represent this, and that are both of the moment and reassuringly timeless. “I wanted to create a new take on the country aesthetic, introducing playful colours and bold prints”.

Whilst studying surface pattern design in London Sophia uncovered forgotten female textiles designers of the 18th century, such as Anna Maria Garthwaite. “I felt such a connection to her work and championing these forgotten pioneering women is a subject close to my heart.”

Former fashion retail buyer Sophia runs the studio alongside her sister-in-law Laura Hassan, a creative whose background in interior design deeply informs the look and feel of these British-produced fabrics. “We are both hugely inspired by vintage textiles and spend many hours poring over archive material at the V&A when conceiving a new collection,”

Each design is painted by hand in their countryside studio, before being printed in the UK onto luxury linen.

Sustainability is also a hallmark of our independent studio. Our linens are ethically farmed in Europe and printed in the UK to order, to avoid unnecessary waste. Packaging is recyclable, and a tree is planted via Trees for Life. “It’s an ethos that also chimes with our passion for vintage designs and old pieces.

Our cloths have been considered and designed with purpose and longevity in mind, printed to order with as little waste as possible.
